At the first free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix that was being held this morning from 11.00 to 12.00 hrs. Jos set an 11th time and Salo a 17th time. Frentzen was first, followed by Schumacher, Hakkinen, Villeneuve, Barichello and Coulthard. Due to a malfunction of the time measurement computer the official times will be given later on. Half way the session Jos had some adjustments made to his wings, a little bit more flat, propably due to the fact that he had enough downforce. The weather is good, sunny and 15,2 °C. The air humidity is 59 % and the track temperature is 26,8 °C. The action on the track only really started after 20 minutes. Before that time only Shinji Nakano was the only driver who drove more than 1 lap. After 20 minutes Villeneuve, Alesi, Frentzen, Herbert and the Jordans came on the track among others. Jos drives to an 8th position, on 2,5 seconds from Frentzen who sets a 1:23,5. Jos enters the pit on a 13th position and has some adjustments made to his wings. In the last 7 minutes of the session Jos comes out again. Frentzen has set the pole to 1:23.187 in the mean time. Jos now clocks 1:24.7, on 1,6 seconds from Frentzen. Due to a malfunctioning time measurement no official times are registered. Jos finally leaves the track on an 11th position.
