The 8th Grand Prix was won by Michael Schumacher. The race started somewhat boring but had a spectacular ending due to the rain that started 20 laps before the finish. HH Frentzen became 2nd, and Eddy Irvine was 3rd. Villeneuve, who almost lost his car just before the finishline, became 4th just in ahead of Jean Alesi and Ralf Schumacher. Just like Jos Verstappen, Mika Salo did not make it to the finishline.

Initial investigations at Tyrrell have pointed out that both Jos and Mika suffered the same electronics failure in today's race. The most propable cause is that the main onboard computer shut down all control systems without warning. This type of failure is unprecedented and will be thoroughly investigated before next week's test at Silverstone.

On July 3 and 4 Tyrrell will be testing at Silverstone (just as all teams will on July 2 to 4 before the British Grand Prix). Both Jos and Mika will be driving their race cars and on Friday the team intends to run of this year's cars fitted with narrow (180 cm) suspension and grooved Goodyear's to comply with next year's FIA regulations.
