Max on Interlagos chances: 'Winning would be unexpected'

Published on 08 November 2018 by Stefan Meens

In recent Grands Prix, Max Verstappen enjoyed a good run of results. After a third place in Japan, a P2 in the United States and a victory last time out in Mexico, the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver now heads to Interlagos for the Brazilian round of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship.

Despite his consecutive podium finishes, Max is not sure he will be able to achieve similar results in Brazil. “Unless some crazy stuff happens, we’re most likely going to finish fifth and sixth. Winning would be unexpected.”

“I’ll give it my all, but there aren’t enough corners to compensate for the loss of time on the straights. You could see that last year. We just don’t have enough power. A lot of the time you are full throttle and it’s uphill so it’s really going to hurt us.”

In 2016, Max treated race fans to a masterclass in overtaking on a drying track. He progressed from 16th to a well deserved podium in third. “Maybe I’ll do a rain dance, because I think it’s going to be dry on Sunday. You have to be realistic, this just isn’t our track. Maybe it falls in our favour with the weather or how the other teams shape up this weekend. We’ll see.”
