Again, Ferrari sets the fastest time on the second day of the winter test in Barcelona. Charles Leclerc sets a time of 1:18.247 in the SF90. A lap time he already set in the morning. Pierre Gasly, who took over from Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, crashed his RB15 an hour and fifteen minutes from the end. After the crash, the Frenchman did not come into action again and concluded the day in P7.
The McLaren of Lando Norris ended the day in P2. In the final phase, the Brit sets a 1:18.553 on the red C4 tyre, and closes in on the time of Leclerc within three-tenths of a second. That makes the Haas of Kevin Magnussen to drop down into P3.
Toro Rosso debutant Alexander Albon starts the day with a false start, as he spins off the track after only four turns and causes the first code red of the day. However, he makes up for that mistake by completing 132 laps and ending in P4. Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Giovinazzi completes the top five with a time he already set in the morning. Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes ends the day in P6.
With an hour and fifteen minutes to go, things go wrong for Pierre Gasly. The new driver of Red Bull loses control of his RB15 and spins backwards into the barriers. The Frenchman would not return. At the end of the day, he ends in P7. He does keep both Renaults behind him. Nico Hülkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo end in P8 and P9.
Lewis Hamilton ends in P10 in front of the Lance Stroll’s Racing Point. At Haas F1, Pietro Fittipaldi takes over from Kevin Magnussen at the end of the day. The youngster completes thirteen laps and ends last.
