The Grand Prix of Canada was hectic. After the start, Irvine and Hakkinen collided with each other and had to park their car beside the track. Barrichello and Frentzen fell back dramatically, while Jos Verstappen (P10) and Mika Salo (P11) both had a beautiful start. Schumacher kept the lead in front of Villeneuve. Villeneuve however made a steering error coming up the straight and parked his car against the wall. The result was a safety car situation. Due to several driver who fell out and also because of a beautiful overtaking manoevre on Barrichello, Jos drove to position 6 before coming to the pits for his first pitstop. Jos drove very good up until after his second pitstop where he could not shift his gears any more and his gearbox was stuck in fourth gear. The team tried to fix the problem unfortunately without result. Jos was very pleased after the race despite his withdrawing. Specially the progress the team is making makes him feel more and more comfortable.

oulthard went very fast and it looked as if he would win the race with only one pit stop. He took the lead from Schumacher, and when the German had to come in for his third pit stop, it looked o piece of cake. However a bad left rear tyre forced Coulthard to come in again, and when his engine stopped it took to long before the team had him running again.
uring this pitstop of Coulthard, Panis made a bad collision when he hit a tyre wall at high speed. He could not get out of the car by himself and the last information we received is that he broke one leg.

he result was that the safety car had to come on the track again. The race was not restarted anymore and Michael Schumacher who was in the lead won the race in front of 2:Alesi, 3:Fisichella, 4: Frentzen, 5: Herbert and 6: Nakano.
