Red Bull Racing maxing out softs for Monaco Grand Prix

Published on 15 May 2019 by Mike Motilall

Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier, has announced the tyre choices the different teams have made for the Monaco Grand Prix. During the race weekend in Monaco the teams have the three softest tyre compounds at their disposal, those are the C5, the C4 and C3. The C5, the softest possible compound, will be used for the first time during a race weekend and is recognizable by the red striping, while the C4 (medium) and C3 (hard) are respectively yellow and white striped.

On the circuit in the principality, the tyre degradation is very minimal and qualifying crucial. That is the reason that the teams are giving the C5-tyres absolute preference. Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Ferrari take the cake with the maximum amount of eleven sets of the soft tyres. This means that Max Verstappen and team mate Pierre Gasly, just like Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc only have one set of the hard compound tyre and one set of the medium at their disposal.

Most of the other teams have opted to run on ten sets of the softs. Both Williams’ and Racing Points’ drivers have gone for only nine sets of the soft compound.
