During the second free session there was still no supirior Williams team, however we also can't point out a favourite for pole position. This time Mochael Schumacher was the fastest in 1:18.034. The relative low temperature (14°C) seams to be no obstacle for faster lap times, so many drivers took high risks. Barrichello, Magnussen and Hakkinen were not able to keep the ideal line of the track. Irvine had some freighting moments when a walking beaver was in front of his car. Both driver and beaver are doing very well, since a collision did not take place, thanks to the driver. The top 6 was completed with Panis, Alesi, Fisichella, Irvine and Barrichello.

Salo and Verstappen tried to beet each other times. In the beginning Verstappen was the fastest, at the end Salo was 0.06 sec faster at P 15 with Jos on P16.
