Max: 'I think we should aim for a third place finish'

After the first two free practices for the Monaco Grand Prix, Max Verstappen shortly spoke with Olav Mol in the show ‘Formule 1 Café’, which can be seen every Friday evening at 22.30 hrs. on Ziggo. On the question whether he is able to go after Mercedes in Monaco, the Dutchman replies: “I think that we are pretty close. The first free practice was quite good, but for the second free practice we changed a couple of things on the car and that didn’t feel quite positive. So it doesn’t give you any confidence to push the limits and you also won’t take any risk.”
Max continues: “During the first free practice everything went flawless and we did have quite a good balance in the car and I was able to do my laps. During the second practice we had water leakage. Something from another car or from the track flew into my airbox and damaged the radiator. It was a shame that that happened, because you need to change the whole thing and that takes a while.”
Looking ahead at qualifying on Saturday, Max explains why he thinks that the second row is the highest achievable: “We know in which direction to go regarding the setup on Saturday. If it is enough to get close to Mercedes, I don’t know. It looks like they actually still have some more in store, because even on their last lap they are still the quickest. Lewis Hamilton even with a flat spot. I think they do have something extra to be able to go even faster. It’s going to be tricky. I think we should aim for a third place finish.”
