Max presents his 2019 TAG Heuer watch in Amsterdam: 'A good step forward'

This Wednesday afternoon Max Verstappen was in Amsterdam to present a new edition of his own watch: the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Calibre 16 Max Verstappen Special Edition 2019. Some 150 guests were present, by invitation only, at the exclusive event where the limited edition automatic chronograph was first unveiled. Limited to just 333 pieces, the watch is only available at selected TAG Heuer points of sale in the Netherlands for € 3.100,-.
The new timepiece is the fourth one in a row which the Swiss maker has launched in collaboration with Max. After three successful Max Verstappen special editions in 2016, 2017 and 2018, all equipped with a high-quality Swiss quartz movement, TAG Heuer decided to continue its successful collaboration with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and raise the bar on a technical level: this time round, the new special edition is an automatic chronograph.
Max says: “I am really pleased with how this latest edition has turned out. To me it looks great. I’m really happy that TAG Heuer included the automatic movement, as it feels like, as we say in the Formula One, a good step forward! It is a sporty looking watch, which I like. I think you can wear it on any occasion, which is important and something I always look for in a watch. I hope the fans like the new design as much as I do.”
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Calibre 16 Max Verstappen Special Edition 2019 watch is a sporty chronograph that is both elegant and practical. The striking red-and-black colour theme with stainless steel parts has been chosen by Max himself. Engraved is his name in red on the fixed bezel of the watch and on the back of the case, the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team logo and Max’ starting number 33.
A human’s internal clock can get affected by the many long travels. Max has just returned from Japan and is suffering from a small jetlag. “You need to try to get used to the local time as soon as possible. Often you need to force that by staying up a bit longer or alternatively go to bed earlier”, the Dutchman explains. And passing time in traffic jams, Max has gotten used to that as well: “Yes, I regularly get stuck in traffic jams. I see many cities all across the world, where it’s very busy or very populated, so we get stuck quite often in traffic jams. Most of the time I am not behind the wheel, so then I am busy on my phone.”
Time is what it’s all about in Formula 1 and for a driver. But off track Max is able to let go of that aspect. “Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. You don’t always think of the time when you’re chilling and don’t need to worry about anything. But when I have meetings or an event like today's I of course need to take time into account. A watch is something very handy for me and when I am not wearing one, it feels like I am missing something.”
