Max loses pole position in Mexico due to penalty

Published on 27 October 2019 by Mike Motilall

Max Verstappen has been handed out a three-place grid-penalty by the FIA after qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix. He failed to back off in the last corner where the yellow flag was out when Valtteri Bottas crashed into the barriers. The Dutchman is forced to relinquish his pole position and will be starting the race from fourth.

During the final runs in the third part of qualifying, Bottas went off track and triggered the yellow flag in Turn seventeen. Normally, drivers need to slow down at the specific corner the flag is shown. However, Max bettered his quickest time which meant he had report to the Stewards after qualifying. Apart from a drop on the grid, the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing-driver is also penalized with two points on his licence.
