Max Verstappen flew Monday night to Austria, where he and Dr. Helmut Marko on behalf of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing were invited to the TV programme Sport & Talk of ServusTV. During programme from within Hangar 7 a variety of subjects were discussed, of which also the death of Niki Lauda in May.
Max says: “Niki has achieved so much in his live, I hope to be able to do that too. He was a real, pure driver with a massive career. That is what he lived for and I respect that a lot. He was kind and open. His passing was a huge loss, not only for Austria.”
Looking back at last Formula 1 season, Dr. Helmut Marko says about Red Bull: “We have taken a lesson and next year we will not have any excuses. Our Honda power is top, Max is also top so now we have to deliver a good chassis. At the moment we are two weeks ahead of our schedule. It goes better than ever before.”
Max, who won three Grand Prix in 2019, adds: “Of course I want to win more races in a season. We hope to be able to compete for the world championship straight from the beginning of the season.”
Max, whose contract with Red Bull runs until 2020, does not look any further ahead: “I am really positive. I feel well within Red Bull, and everything goes really well and that is the most important in the end. We all want to win together. I am relaxed and feel well within the team. I want to win with Red Bull.”
In Austria there were tens of thousands of orange Dutch fans. You do not have to guess who the Dutch Grand Prix on Circuit Zandvoort will look like in May 2020. Max: “It will look amazing with all those Dutch fans. Hopefully we can overtake in the Formula 1 cars at the updated track, and hopefully we will perform well.” Do you think Zandvoort is a Red Bull circuit that will suit you well? “Hopefully next year every track will be a Red Bull circuit”, concludes Max.
