Jos didn't test today at Monza as was the original plan. As Jos still suffers from quite a lot of neck pain it was decided that it was better to spend another week receiving treatment in Belgium to be top-fit again for the next Grand Prix at Hockenheim. The test at Monza was now completed on Wednesday and Thursday to work on the reliability problems that occurred the last 3 races. Furthermore some high-speed, low-downforce tests were done in preparation for the fast circuit of Hockenheim. On top of things more test were conducted with the experimental Tyrrell 025X in preparation for the FIA-rule changes in 1998.

Mika Salo was the only driver in action for Tyrrell and luckily was quite fast at Monza. He completed 61 laps with the 'normal' Tyrrell 025 with a best time of 1:25.8. On Thursday Mika drove with the Tyrrell 025X, with a narrow suspension and grooved tyres, recording a fastest lap time of 1:30.2 in 58 laps.
