Gerhard Berger crashed at Monza on his first test drive for Benetton since undergoing two sinus operations. He sped off the track with a speed of 300 Km/h. Berger commented on it: "It could have been a horrible accident but luckily I ended up on the grass and everything was alright, but it certainly wasn't a great return.". When asked if he would retire after this season he said: "I'm a driver and I want to keep on racing." He has had talks with Williams and expects to drive for at least another two seasons.
Jos and Mika will be testing on Monza on Thursday and Friday, to identify the reliability problems of the Ford engine. The team will also be testing the experimental 025X chassis again. Also see our items on July 9 and 13.
