Pirelli announces tyre choices Australian Grand Prix

Published on 03 March 2020 by Kees-Jan Koster

Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier, have announced the selection of tyres the teams have made for the Australian Grand Prix. For the season opener at the Albert Park Street Circuit, the teams will have at their disposal the C2-, C3- and C4-tyres, marked respectively white, yellow and red.

Most teams, including Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, take nine sets of the softest compound to Melbourne. Max Verstappen and teammate Alexander Albon have apart from those also one set of the hard tyre and three sets of the medium tyre at their disposal.

Mercedes, Renault, Alfa Romeo and Haas, with ten sets of the softest compound, seem to opt for the most aggressive strategy. What stands out is that Esteban Ocon (Renault) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) only have one set of the yellow marked mediums at their disposal. Racing Point is the only team to opt for eight sets of the softs.
