Max dominates second round Real Racers Never Quit in Barcelona
Published on 26 March 2020 by Mike Motilall
Max Verstappen has dominantly taken home the victory of both races during the second round of “Real Racers Never Quit by Team Redline”. On the virtual version of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, 40 contestants, all professional drivers, could choose between a BMW or a Porsche GT-car to start the second race with in the iRacing game. Max took the Porsche, started both races from pole and was never put under pressure by his competitors. After he won the first race in Spa-Francorchamps last Monday, Verstappen leads the championship by a healthy margin. The races can be watched from Team Redline’s livestream at live.teamredline.com.
After the second race, Max had the following to say: “I enjoyed myself tonight. The car felt good. Apart from that I also like the track, as drivers we know the track well.”
Despite the major lead on his competitors, Verstappen has been enjoying himself: “I love to win. Sometimes fighting is fun, but winning by a great margin is often also very nice. You could see that the men behind of me were getting quicker, so my lead on them has become less in the second race.”
Only right before the training it is announced on which track and with which car the drivers will be racing with. This applies for the two coming races as well, which will be held this Friday. Regarding the question what Max isn’t hoping for, he replies: “The track isn’t really what bothers me, it has more to do with the car. It will be interesting to see where we will be driving the next time. Maybe Nascar, where I have never driven in before. I don’t know, so we’ll see.”
In the free practice, the top-30 is within two seconds of each other. Max is the one topping the leaderboard. Also during qualifying for the first race, Max is unbeatable. With a 1:40.893, he barely manages to stay ahead of fellow Formula 1-driver Lando Norris.
During the rolling start Max had brought his A game with him and completely unopposed took the first corner. Lando Norris is passed by Ayhancan Guven but moments later, Norris sends Guven off the track at Turn ten. Verstappen quickly creates a gap to his immediate pursuers, Porsche Supercup-driver Larry ten Voorde and ex-DTM-driver Daniel Juncadella. Verstappen is the only driver lapping the track under the 1 minute 41’s and after seventeen laps, Max takes the chequered flag with a ten second lead on ten Voorde. Juncadella rounds up the podium. Norris fights his way back to fourth, ahead of Tom Dillman who comes in fifth.
Right after the first race, qualifying takes place for the second race. Max reigns supreme once again. With a 1:40.548 the youngster is way quicker with well over four tenths than Guven and ten Voorde who are second and third.
At the start of the second race, Max outdoes the competition once again and he takes off never to be caught up again. At the back of the field, a major crash takes place at Turn four, but because the damage has been bypassed, the drivers are able to continue on. And once again the top spot never comes under attack from anyone for Verstappen. With well over a four second lead, he wins for the third time in four races. Securing the fastest lap time twice this evening, Max finishes the evening unopposed. Once more, the Dutchman Larry ten Voorde comes in second with behind him Ayhancan Guven, the Porsche Supercup 2019 vice-champion, in third. Daniel Juncadella finishes fourth while the Dane Mikkel Jensen is P5.
