Despite a bomb-warning in the paddock the first free practice session on Saturday started on time. Michael Schumacher was the man to beat this morning (1:22.586), closely followed by Jacques Villeneuve (1:22.723). Frentzen, Coulthard, Hakkinen and Irvine completed the top 6.

Jos Verstappen was 15th this morning (1:25.337), teammate Salo was a bit quicker and was 14th (1:25.015). For this race the Tyrrell is made more attractive by a large picture of Xena, Warrior Princess, on the side. The team is also sponsored by Autotrader.
