Sergio Perez to miss British GP due to Covid-19

Published on 30 July 2020 by Mike Motilall

Sergio Pérez will not be participating in this weekend’s British Grand Prix. The thirty-year-old Mexican tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday. This means that he is to miss the race on Silverstone. An earlier test proved to be ‘not conclusive’, resulting in the Racing Point-driver having to re-take the test and remain in quarantine as a precautionary measure.

“Sergio is well and in good spirits, but will continue to self-isolate under the guidelines of the relevant public health authorities”, Racing Point declared in a statement. “Safety is the ultimate priority for the team and sport.”

Despite the fact that the Mexican won’t be racing, the English squad is nevertheless assuming that they will have two cars running this race weekend. It’s anyone’s guess who will be replacing Pérez: “Our intention is to race two cars on Sunday. We will communicate the next steps for our British Grand Prix weekend in due course.”
