Second free practice also rained out: 'Pity for the fans'

The second free practice, in the run up to the Eifel Grand Prix, has also been cancelled. The weather conditions on the 5,148 meter long Nürburgring, was too poor for the medical helicopter to fly in case of an emergency. This was the same reason why the first free practice was also cancelled earlier today.

“It’s a pity for the fans”, says Max after the second practice on the Nürburgring. “Now they are finally letting fans watch and it’s a shame that we cannot drive. But we need to accept that the medical helicopter cannot fly in these conditions.”

Looking at the rest of the weekend, Max had this to say: “It’s difficult because it’s so cold, it will be hard to get the tyres to work well. I think it will be a bit better tomorrow. It couldn’t be worse than today but we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”

When the second free practice should have gotten underway, the weather hasn’t changed a bit than earlier on today. The first free practice was also cancelled because the medical helicopter could not fly due to poor visibility. For the second free practice this was also the case. That the first free practice had been cancelled was particularly hurtful for Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott, they literally saw their first F1-performance at Alfa Romeo and Haas F1 respectively, rained out.

Race Control will now deliberate if and how the lost practices on the Nürburgring will be made up for.
