Unfortunately Jos Verstappen did not see the chequered flag at Spa today. The Dutchman made a mistake in the 26th lap which put him in the gravel. Verstappen was in 8th position at the moment. All in all Jos drove a strong race up to that moment and was driving in the top 10 most of the time.
"Our tyre strategy was absolutely right and everything was going fantastically until the track started to dry and I had to push hard to keep other drivers behind me. I just got on the power too early coming out of Rivage and lost the back of the car. It was completely my fault and I am really disappointed about it, especially from the team point of view, but we were racing well today which is good for everyone. I always give 100% but I'm afraid I gave a bit too much today." said Jos.
Because of the changeable weather conditions the track was very treacherous. Therefore it was decided to start the race from behind the pacecar. Michael Schumacher came away best with the difficult circumstances. The German dominated the race from the start and further increased his lead in the World Championship. Jordan driver Fisichella was second followed by Mika Hakkinen. Verstappen's teammate made it to the finish in 12th place, one lap behind winner Schumacher.
