Today Jarno Trulli set an unofficial track record on the circuit of Mugello during tests with his Prost. He set the track record to 1:25.120 on the circuit in Tuscany with an average speed of 221.828 Km/h, and improved the previous track record of 1:25.252 set by Michael Schumacher on April 3. All records are unofficial because official records can only be set during a race or a qualifying session.

Willy Weber, manager of among others the Schumacher brothers, has declared the change of Michael Schumacher to McLaren in 1999, which was mentioned as sure in the German Sport-magazine, as complete nonsens. Norbert Haug, sporting director at McLaren-Mercedes, said about this: "There are no new developments and there are no deals". Michael's contract with Ferrari ends in 1999.

Little brother Ralf in the mean time has other worries on his head. On November 3 he is called up for civil service in the army. He received his call from the Luftwaffe and will commence his training then. It doesn't matter that much he said because the season is over by then. He will get time off from the army though for tests with his team.
