Sebastian Vettel lost his second-place in the Hungarian Grand Prix, when he was disqualified a couple of hours after the race as there was insufficient fuel in his Aston Martin.
Vettel had a strong race in Hungary. He stayed out of the chaos at the start and kept pressure on the race winner Esteban Ocon for most of the race. When finishing second, everything looked like he was going to take a trophy home for the second time this season, but had to return it a couple of hours after the race. After each race, the FIA needs a fuel sample of at least 1 litre, but there was only 0.3 litre left in Vettel’s car. Now the German has been disqualified, all the drivers behind him will move up one position. Lewis Hamilton finishes second, while Carlos Sainz will take third. Max Verstappen finished tenth, but will move up to nineth position.
Because of Vettel’s disqualification, Hamilton will gain another two points ahead of Verstappen in the championship. The Dutchman is now eight points behind, with twelve races to go. Aston Martin has indicated appeal the decision of the FIA.
