The 15th Luxembourg Grand Prix is won ...

The 15th Luxembourg Grand Prix is won by Jacques Villeneuve, who passed the chequered flag in front of Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Gerhard Berger, Pedro Diniz and Olivier Panis. For a long time the race was dominated by both McLaren's until both David Coulthard and in the next lap Mika Hakkinen had to give up with blown up engines. Jos Verstappen didn't make it to the finish line because his engine gave up on him, 17 laps before the end of the race, so his gearbox locked and he slid off the track. Jos has to hurry home now because his wife Sophie is in labour. For a complete overview of the times you can take a look at our season page.

Number one mechanic on Mika Salo's car, Phil Cant, was involved in a pit lane accident with Michael Schumacher's Ferrari before the race. He was taken to the on-site Medical Centre for precautionary X-rays, but only suffered bruising to his shoulder and returned to the Tyrrell garage before the start of the Grand Prix.
