Tomorrow Mika Hakkinen will start from pole position for the first time in the Grand Prix of Luxembourg with a laptime in 1.16.602. Next to him on the first row is Jacques Villeneuve who set a laptime of 1.16.691. Frentzen is on the second row (1.16.741) followed by Fisichella (1.17.289). Michael Schumacher became 5th (1.17.385), just 0.002 sec ahead of Coulthard who became 6th (1.17.387).

Although Jos Verstappen improved himself compared to the morning session, he became 21st with a laptime of 1.19.531 and had to give in to his teammate Salo within 0.005 sec, who became 20th with a laptime of 1.19.526.
Jos said about the qualifying session: "Mika and I gave it 100% today and you can see how hard we pushed each other. On my second run I had a huge oversteer so I decided to come in after that, which is why our lap sequence looks a bit strange. I ended up cutting the chicane once but the kerb sent me about a meter into the air so I didn't try it again."
