Max after Friday in Sao Paulo: 'I knew that it was going to be difficult'

On Friday after the first free practice and qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Max spoke to Ziggo Sport’s Olav Mol.
You had to go for a doping check? Max: “Yes, that happens a couple of times a year, it was a bit strange that it happened this time on a Friday and it took a while before I was able to go to the toilet. After qualifying I cannot pee on command, as you are more dehydrated than normal.”
When Olav asked if they gave him some more water to drink Max says: “Yes, I think I drank one and a half litre of water, and I had to go twice to the toilet in ten minutes time.”
Did the track change since 2019? “Yes, it is a bit more bumpy, not too much of a difference, so it is fine.”
Is it easy to attack on this track? Max: “Yes, you can but the tyres are heating up quickly so that could make a difference. Today it was relatively cold in comparison to Sunday, so that will change the balance of the car.”
Are you happy overall? Max: “Yes, I did not expect to be on pole, with Lewis taking a new engine, we know that when Mercedes take a new engine that they can crank it up for the first weekend, and then the power will come down slowly. So I know it was going to be difficult.”
