Jan Magnussen was the fastest man of the first free practice session on Saturday in preparation for the Austrian Grand Prix with a time of 1:12.213. The Stewart-Ford's are performing well on this circuit since teammate Rubens Barrichello also set a fastest time yesterday in one of the sessions. Frentzen, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Trulli and Alesi completed the top 6. Jos Verstappen and Mika Salo couldn't impress with their Tyrrell-Ford's and ended 21st and 22nd with 1:15.399 and 1:15.949.
