Verstappen third quickest in Baku FP3

Max Verstappen completed a hattrick of third places in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix practice sessions after setting the third quickest time in FP3. Oracle Red Bull Racing Team mate Sergio Perez was quickest with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc clocking the second fastest lap time.

The start to the third and final practice session was delayed as circuit staff worked hard to repair severalTecpro barriers following a crash in the Saturday Formula 2 race. When the pitlane does open, Aston Martin is first out of the blocks with both drivers out on track. On the other hand, Max is the last driver to steer out of the garage, almost 25 minutes into the session.

Nevertheless, at the halfway point, it is business as usual with the two Ferraris and Red Bulls occupying the first four spots on the leader boards.

In the final quarter, the drivers shift their attention to qualifying simulations. Max bolts a fresh set of softs on his RB18, which propels him to a 1:43.240 on his first flying lap. On his second run, the reigning champ appears to be on his way to set the quickest time, before having to aboard his attempt because of traffic.

Meanwhile, Perez does manage a clean lap to clock the fastest time of the session (1:43.170) with Charles Leclerc splitting the two Red Bulls in his Ferrari.
