Tony George, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is trying to add the famous American circuit to the F1 calendar. A Formula One race could use parts of the existing 2 1/2-mile oval and likely would require construction of a new track for a road course in the infield. If Formula 1 is brought to the States again it won't be before the year 1999 or even 2000. The last Grand Prix held in the USA was at Phoenix in 1991. Ayrton Senna won the race in a McLaren Honda and Satoru Nakajima, now sporting director of the Tyrrell-team, finished fifth in a Tyrrell Honda.
