In the second and last free practice session on Saturday in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix Villeneuve was fastest with 1:23.194, followed by Alesi, Fisichella, Hakkinen, Ralf Schumacher and Coulthard. During this session it became painfully obvious that on this ultra fast circuit the cars determine the ranking. Also remarkable was that there was no more than 0.5 seconds time difference in the top 7 of this morning.

Compared to the first session Jos had a good improvement of his time to 1:25.925 but still ranked 20th. Teammate Salo ranked 19th with 1:25.561, a time that he set in the first session today. Both Arrows' of Diniz and Hill ended in the gravel and Johnny herbert hit the barrier hard and damaged his right rear wheel suspension. A complete overview can be found in our season section.
