During the first part of the free practice today for the grand prix of Italy, Mika Hakkinen set the fastest time at the end of the session in 1:25.096 just ahead of both Williams from Frentzen and Villeneuve. Jos drove with 1:26.755 to position 17, only 1.7 sec behind Hakkinen. Salo was a little bit faster with 1:26.608 on position 14.
