Max at Interlagos: 'Good chance of winning'

Ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend, which features a sprint race on Saturday to determine the grid for Sunday’s race, Max Verstappen explained why he is not very enthusiastic about the format. “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but I’m not a fan. I feel you can’t really race flat out. There are some points to be gained, but you’re not going to risk too much because there is still the main race on Sunday.”
He adds: “Because you don’t make a pitstop in the sprint, you usually race on a compound that lasts the whole race. With this generation of cars, we are able to follow the car in front better, but usually there aren’t many overtakes in the sprint. Really only when some of the faster cars start at the back.”
Despite preferring the traditional Grand Prix weekend set-up, the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver does see some benefits to having a sprint. “What I like is that you only have one free practice session ahead of qualifying. It means everyone has less time to practice and it’s all about finding the right set-up quickly.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, Max is optimistic. “We have a good chance of winning here. The car is quick and usually this circuit suits us. I’m looking forward to it. We have a strong car, so we’ll give it our all.”
