Thierry scores P5 in DTM at Sachsenring: 'We came back very strong'

Verstappen.com Racing is represented in the DTM by Thierry Vermeulen, who drives a Ferrari 296 GT3 of Emil Frey Racing. The 21-year-old Dutchman made his appearance last weekend during the sixth round of the DTM championship, at the Sachsenring in Germany.

Looking back, Thierry says: “We had a positive weekend in Sachsenring, where we faced some difficulties but we came back very strong on Sunday. On Saturday we had a good qualifying starting P6 and after some penalties we ended in P5, which was very good and my best qualifying in DTM so far. But in the race we struggled with pace and some mistakes from my side. We worked very hard all night to review my mistakes and to improve the car, so we could come back stronger Sunday and that’s exactly what we did.”

Thierry continues: “On Sunday, we had a really strong qualifying in P4 but sadly due to penalties we had to start P9, which is very unfortunate when you qualify that far in the front, but we had a strong race taking a couple of positions in the start. After that we had good pace overtaking some guys and ended in P6 with good pace. Unfortunate I couldn’t get past the Porsche, but it was a very positive race. After some penalties we officially ended in P5. So we got some good points.”

“Recently everything is flowing very positively with the team, so I am very grateful for what they’re doing and their hard work. All these back-to-back races are very tough, but they are giving it their all each time. Finishing ten races in a row in the top ten, so for sure I am very happy with that. Our goal is for sure a podium and I think if we keep working hard we can reach it. Now it’s straight on to Valencia this week, for the GT World Challenge, which I am very much looking forward to. It is my first time racing there, so I am excited to experience the track.”
