Williams has decided to withdraw their appeal against the disqualification of Jacques Villeneuve in the Japanese Grand Prix of last weekend after threats from the FIA that Jacques might not only loose two points but also maybe the chance to race in Jerez. Jacques now looses his two points of the last Grand Prix causing Michael Schumacher to lead the championship with one point over Jacques. Hopefully for Jacques Michael Schumacher will not pull the same trick he did with Damon Hill back in 1994 causing both cars to retire and giving Michael his first championship title.

According to Austrian newspaper 'Kurier' Gerhard Berger will announce his retirement from Formula 1 racing on Friday. Gerhard Berger started his first full season in F1 in 1986 in a Benetton BMW Turbo and will now propably end his career in a Benetton Renault. In this period of time he won 10 Grand Prix. He had his first Grand Prix victory on October 12, 1986 at the Mexico Grand Prix.

The crash of Gianni Morbidelli at the qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix has propably left him with a hairline fracture in the arm that he already broke earlier this year. Due to the crash he wasn't able to take part in the Japanese Grand Prix.

The Arrows team has confirmed that they will continue using the Yamaha engines for 1998. It was long expected that Arrows would switch engine suppliers because the Yamaha's haven't exactly proven their reliability last season although the engines have improved towards the end of the season.
