Jos after Max's 50th Grand Prix victory: 'Enjoying every moment'

Published on 23 October 2023 by Misha van der Kroon

Jos Verstappen saw his son Max achieve another great success in the United States. The three-time World Champion won both the sprint race on Saturday and the race on Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, although he had to fight for it. Lewis Hamilton finished the race on Sunday at just two seconds behind the Dutchman, while Lando Norris was ten seconds behind the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver.

“It was more exciting than expected,” Jos says. “We expected an easier battle, especially after Saturday. But you heard Max over the radio, he had issues with the brakes. They changed it on Saturday evening, but it didn’t feel right for Max anymore.”

He continues: “Max also had to manage his tyres, and couldn’t push too hard. The hard tyres didn’t feel great either, and it was the first time he used them. So the race was a bit more difficult.”

However, after 56 laps the Dutch national anthem was played. How happy are you with this fiftieth victory, Jos? “I like every victory. Where does it end? The competition is getting closer, so we have to enjoy every moment.”
