Published on 11 March 2024 by Stefan Meens

Jos Verstappen claimed a convincing victory at the Hannuit Rally. Alongside co-driver Renaud Jamoul, the 51-year-old won ten out of the twelve timed stages in their Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. Runner-up John Wartique, trailed Verstappen by 58 seconds.

“I’m very happy. We learned a lot and the team operated fantastic. The collaboration with Renaud is amazing so it couldn’t be better”, said a delighted Jos. “It’s the first time driving this rally but it’s a great event with beautiful stages and a couple of really difficult ones. For example, the cobblestones are really slippery. Because it was our first time, we learned a lot. We made some changes to the car and I was happy with them. It went really well!”

Jamoul grew up in the area, proving an advantage. “Lately, the pace notes we make are perfect. If we notice something during the first completion of a stage, we straight away make notes. We work really well together and there is a lot of trust. I think we really improved.”

The Hannuit Rally consists of the four stages (Cras-Avernas, Ciplet, Orp and Wansin) that are contested three times each, resulting in a twelve stage event. Jos is immediately on the pace with the quickest time on the opening timed section. After a third, first and fourth place in the next three stages, Verstappen snr has really found his rhythm, resulting in eight stage wins in a row and the overall victory.

On Saturday 16 March, Jos will contest the second round of the Belgian Rally Championship: de Rally des Ardennes.
