F1 Boss Bernie Ecclestone will possibly be inquired by the European Commission about the monopoly that he has build in the past 15 years around Grand Prix Racing. European Commissioner Karel van Miert, who is concerned with matters of free enterprise, said that he was worried about the power that Ecclestone had wielded. "For 15 years already, Mr. Ecclestone rules the Formula 1 alone. It is a real problem and we will have to take steps to get order in these matters. We are studying on several different options".

In the next few months Bernie Ecclestone, who has an exclusive contract for 25 years to exploit the F1 World Championship through his Formula One Holdings (FOH), will receive a warning letter from the EC and he will need to reply to that. Mr Karel Van Miert finally concluded "Bernie Ecclestone is judge and jury at the same time and that is in contradiction with articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome".
