Jos Verstappen concluded the two day test ...

Jos Verstappen concluded the two day test session at the circuit of Barcelona with Tyrrell today. Just like yesterday it rained very hard today too and so the test session didn't give the team much results. "It is of no use testing a lot with an old car in the rain" Jos said to us. As we told yesterday the Jos only drove 24 laps mainly testing the 1998 Goodyear tyres. Around the afternoon the test session was concluded. By then Jos had set a fastest lap time of 1:40.2, not bad compared to the fastest time up until then of 1:39.5. Other teams that tested at Barcelona today were McLaren, Prost, Arrows and Stewart.

Stewart by the way struck a deal with a new main sponsor. MCI, a world wide operating telecom firm, was presented today in London as a new powerful main sponsor for the team that lost two important sponsors recently, the government of Malaysia and Texaco.

Today a meeting took place between FIA president Max Mosley, the French Minister of Sports, Marie-George Buffet, and Jean Glavany, president of the Magny-Cours circuit. Both parties were a little bit optimistic about a possible way of still staging the French Grand Prix in 1998. The Grand Prix was scrapped due to a conflict about TV broadcasting rights.
