After his masterclass at Interlagos, Max was voted ‘Driver of the Day’ for the first time this season. Max received 39% of the votes from the fans who watched Brazilian Grand Prix and won the award, ahead of Esteban Ocon and Franco Colapinto.
The race in Sao Paulo will go down in history as one of the best races of the current World Champion. Max had to start from 17th place, and he managed to fight his way up to sixth place in no time. When a number of drivers pitted for new tyres, Max stayed out. Shortly after, a red flag temporarily stopped the session which gave Max a free pit stop. After the restart, Max was still in P2, behind Esteban Ocon. Not much later, the safety car was deployed and when the session restarted again, Max took over the lead. From that moment on, the gap to the rest of the field only grew and Max eventually won with a lead of more than nineteen seconds. Thanks to his eighth victory of the season, and the extra point for the fastest lap, Max extends his lead over Lando Norris in the world championship by eighteen points. The gap currently stands at 62 points with three races and one sprint race remaining.
