After announcing their Bridgestone deal McLaren started testing with the Japanese tyres. The team joined the other teams that have been testing at Barcelona since the beginning of this week. In these tests Giancarlo Fisichella was quickest yesterday in a '97 Benetton. The best time in a '98 car was set by Johnny Herbert in his Sauber.
In the meantime Ferrari started its own testing program at Fiorano. Nicola Larini tried some new parts for the electrical system.
Jordan tested the new Mugen engine for the first time. Pedro de la Rosa gave the Jordan-Mugen 197H its first shakedown test.

Jos Verstappen was asked to test for the Tyrrell team next week despite not having finalized a contract for '98. Tyrrell intends to test some bits and pieces for the '98 car in Spain. Toranosuke Takagi and Jos will drive the 025 with the V8 engine. The new Tyrrell 026 with the new Ford V10 will not be seen before January 1998.
