Mika Häkkinen will start tomorrow's Brazilian Grand Prix from pole position. The Finn was again superior in the official qualifying session. His teammate David Coulthard followed suit at 6/10s.
Behind the McLarens are Heinz Harald Frentzen and Michael Schumacher. Reigning World Champion Jacques Villeneuve will depart from a dissapointing 10th place. The Canadian had to drive the spare car in qualifying as he shunted his own car in free practice this morning. The team did not have Villeneuve's car ready in time so he had not other option than to drive the Frentzen set-up spare unit.
Free practice in Brazil today was agian dominated by the McLaren drivers. Mika Häkkinen set the fastest time followed by his teammate David Coulthard. Behind the McLarens were Frentzen, Fisichella and Ralf Schumacher.
The FIA decided that the brake system as used by McLaren used in Australia will be outlawed with immediate effect. The governing body sees the system as a form of four wheel steering which is forbidden in Formula 1. Besides McLaren the teams of Jordan and Williams have similar systems for this weekend's Grand Prix. The FIA already had already asked the team not to use the device during the free practice sessions.
