Honda announced its return to Formula 1. At this moment Honda as a partial F1 involvement due to its Mugen connection. The plans are that in the next century Honda will enter the sport with their own car and engine. Honda president Kawamoto announced this at the celebration on the 50th birthday of the company. After the successful period as engine supplier to Williams and McLaren Honda is looking for a new challenge by going for the championship with an own design. The Japanese constructor already tried the very same in the sixties. From 1964 to 1968 Honda was active in Formula 1 with a Honda-Honda. During this period two wins were scored: Richie Ginther in the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix and John Surtees in the Grand Prix of Italy in 1967.
