Toranosuke Takagi was the first driver to go out on the track in the second free Saturday practice session. Mika Hakkinen was the first driver to improve Frentzen's time, set in the first session. Ralf Schumacher, Hill and Takagi also went past Frentzen. It was Ralf Schumacher who led after the first ten minutes of the session. Jean Alesi who did so well in the first session went off the track when trying to overtake someone just like he did yesterday. Villeneuve, Coulthard and Salo also did a closer inspection of the gravel.

Meanwhile Michael Schumacher had set the best time and went to the top of the classification with his new engine and different Goodyear's on his Ferrari. Mika Hakkinen improved Schumacher's time and Frentzen also went past Michael to become second towards the end of the session. The last five minutes of the session it was Michael Schumacher again who set the best of the whole weekend so far: 1:27.737. In the end David Coulthard came second with 1:28.289 and Heinz-Harald Frentzen was third with 1:28.347. For a complete overview of the times you can take a look at our season page.
