Again both McLaren's are on the first row tomorrow. During the qualification for the Monaco Grand Prix Mika Häkkinen could stay ahead of teammate David Coulthard. For a long time, Giancarlo Fisichella was on pole but he had to give in and was set down to the third position with Michael Schumacher next to him who was fourth.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen was the best Williams driver today and set the fifth time while Alexander Wurz closes the top six. This year again, the qualification was marked by several crashes. Barrichello and Irvine parked their car into the barrier and wrote of their car. Ricardo Rosset tried everything but for the second time he was outside 107%.
