In the second free Thursday practice session ...

In the second free Thursday practice session in preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix almost every driver has improved his time compared to the first session. Almost every driver, except the number 1 of the first session, Michael Schumacher, who toppled from first to fifth place. In this session it was again McLaren who set the pace. To more exact: Mika Hakkinen's McLaren, with a time of 1:21.937. Second was Giancarlo Fisichella who did a surprisingly good job today and third was David Coulthard. The top 6 was completed by Frentzen, Michael Schumacher and Irvine. Both Minardi's were still outside the 107 % limit.

Halfway the session was interrupted by a red flag, although the cause of this situation remains unclear. After five minutes the drivers could re-attack the track. Michael Schumacher couldn't improve his time because he parked his car against a pile of tyres near Mirabeau. At Tabac Jarno Trulli parked his car against the railing and had to abandon the session. Near the end of the session Ricardo Rosset rammed his Tyrrell inside the Williams of Villeneuve because the Brazilian 'closed the door' a bit too abrupt when the Canadian tried to overtake him.
