Again a McLaren is on pole position. David Coulthard conquered this wanted starting position with a laptime of 1:18.213, right before his team-mate Mika Häkkinen. The only man who could put a little pressure on the silver duo was Michael Schumacher who became third. Next to him on the grid is Giancarlo Fisichella and on the starting line behind are Ralf Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve.
