Although there is only one week in between last and present grand prix in Germany, lots of teams have been able to improve their cars with technical adjustments. Ferrari therefor will use their enlarged chassis during the free practice of today. Michael Schumacher recently did the shake down test of the cars himself. He also did a lot of practice starts with the car, since due to a bad start he was not able to get ahead of Mika Häkkinen at the A1 ring in Austria.

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis has declared that his team is in great shape, "The team has to be careful that we will not be over confidant" he said. Mika Häkkinen also claimed his team is the best of the field by stating that he believes his team mate David Coulthard to be the biggest thread for his first world championship.

The German Jörg Müller looks to have great chances to gain a seat in the Sauber for next year. Next month he will together with Herbert, do test work at the circuit of Jerez. According to team owner Peter Sauber, Möller has a good relation with the team, and he is very skilled with technical feed back of a car.
