The tenth Grand Prix of the 1998 season is won by Mika Häkkinen followed by David Coulthard on the second place, who started from the 14th position and drove a suburb race. Third place was for Michael Schumacher who managed to climb up again after he spun of the track and damaged his car severely. At the end of the race and driving behind his teammate Irvine who was on 3rd spot Schumacher was able to overtake Irvine who "suddenly" lost 2 seconds per lap due a "brakeproblem". The start of the race was chaotic. As first, Olivier Panis was unable to start and therefor Jos had to manage to go all around him and after that he was forced by Villeneuve and Ralf Schumacher to the outside of the track. In spite of the traffic, Jos was able to keep them both behind him.
The real chaos started in the first corner when Takagi spun off the track and dragged off Herbert and Nakano with him. In the second corner it was Diniz who spun off the track and hits his teammate Salo. Salo however tried to get on track as quick as possible and hits David Coulthard's front suspension and frontwing. The numerous actions and the many retirements characterized the race. Jos was unable to finish today's race due an engine blow and he had to leave the race on 12th position. His teammate Rubens Barrichello had to retire very early in the race due brake problems.
