During the second part of today's free practice it remained cloudy but dry. The session was stopped for longer period due to a severe crash of Jacques Villeneuve who ended in the tyres with a severe damaged left rear of his car. Fortunately, Villeneuve remained unhurt but it took almost half an hour to get Villeneuve his car back to the pits and to repair the tyre walls.

Michael Schumacher is feeling at home in Spa, since he set the fastest time today in 1:51.895, with Mika Häkkinen close behind him at 0.011 sec, followed by David Coulthard. Damon Hill did very well with a fourth place followed by both Williams of Frentzen and Villeneuve.

Jos was able to improve his times and finished the day in 1:55.263 on 16th place. Rubens drove 0.8 seconds faster and ended in a very well done 13th position.
