Besides a Grand Prix in the United States South Africa will also most likely start hosting Grand Prix again. FOCA President Bernie Ecclestone has announced that South Africa will host a Grand Prix in 2001 or sooner. Bernie said: "We have a contract to bring F1 to South Africa, and as soon as we have a slot on the calendar that's what we'll do. Who knows, maybe we will have a race here in 2000, we don't know. I will put a race in South Africa as soon as it is possible." Before hosting the Grand Prix South Africa will be the stage for two "mini Grand Prix" or "maxi test runs". The event is thought to cost more than 100 million Rand ($14 million) will be sponsored by telecom operator Vodacom. The circuit of Kyalami was last used for a Grand Prix on March 14, 1993 and was won by Alain Prost in a Williams Renault.
