Only Fisichella ... The warm-up was without big problems. Only Fisichella got off with a fright at the end of the warm-up because he suddenly saw a slow Diniz in front of him. Fisichella spinned off the track. Hakinen was the fastest with 1.18.694 followed by Coullthard with 1.19.555 and Frentzen. Schumacher held the 4th place with 1.20.325.

Jos was only on the 18th spot with 1.22.961. A short comment from Jos on the warm-up:
"It just didn't work out this morning. We had problems with the balance of the car."
