The two free morning sessions of Saturday were dominated by the McLarens again. Hakkinen and Coulthard were more than a second faster than third man Michael Schumacher.

This morning it was warm and sunny at the Hungaroring near Budapest and many drivers left the track. Among the spinners were: Ralf Schumacher, Takagi, Hill, Villeneuve and Tuero.

Again no good luck for Jos Verstappen. In the beginning of the first session he blew up his Ford engine and only at the end of the second session he could retake his training. Therefor he was almost a second slower than his teammate Rubens Barrichello. Barrichello and Verstappen did the 13th and 16th time

Remarkable were the excellent fourth time of Fisichella and the close times of the numbers 5 (Villeneuve) to 13 (Barrichello): they all were within one second!
